A Sustainable Vision for Greater Western Sydney.

Shortly before Christmas, Tatafu Polota-Nau and myself were invited to talk to WSROC (the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils which represents the 10 local councils in Western Sydney) about a sustainable vision for their regional group of local council areas more commonly called Greater Western Sydney (GWS).

This came about because as I have mentioned in an earlier blog, during 2010, I became part of a sustainability consultancy group (Sustainable Forward Consultancy Group) with Waratah and Wallaby hooker Tatafu Polota-Nau and a chemical engineer and ex-investment banker turned strategic sustainability consultant Chris Andrew.

What a month it’s been…

I can safely say I have never had such a busy month than what has just passed and needless to say I don’t wish to bore you with a long list of what I have been doing but I do want to give a few honourable mentions a couple of things that have happened.

Seven Coconuts to the Litre

There haven’t been too many good news stories coming out of Fiji in the last year or so. Mostly we hear about delayed elections, expelled diplomats, news censorship or even devastating floods. However, behind all this at a local level there are some great sustainability projects being developed in this Pacific Island nation and one of these is to do with the production of bio-diesel from coconuts.

Firstly I would just like to thank the FABC and Chris Andrew from Greenlight in inviting me to speak tonight and Digicel for sponsoring the dinner.

I would also like to thank, on behalf of all the Australian Super 14 players, Air Pacific and Fijian Tourism for their continued support of rugby union in Australia.

Quickly before I begin though, my plan tonight if possible, is to speak briefly about sustainability, then about rugby and then I’d be happy to open the floor to questions if there are any, where I’m pleased to discuss rugby, architecture, sustainability or anything else you wish to ask me about.
